China Stock Slide Hits 4.81%, Bitcoin Near $80,400
Bitcoin currently hovers near $80,400, even as China's artificial intelligence stock bubble continues to deflate.
On October 27, the STAR50 index experienced a 4.81% decline, extending a roughly 40% drop since July, which erased approximately $480 billion.
Two distinct scenarios could determine if this selling pressure extends into the cryptocurrency realm. The more immediate peril involves a mirroring effect on Wall Street, rather than a direct dump from Chinese crypto holdings.
If forthcoming U.S. technology earnings demonstrate that massive spending on AI infrastructure still surpasses actual revenue, worries about inflated valuations might spread. While the CSI 300 dropped about 4.81% in the last 24 hours, with tech names leading the late-session selloff, Chinese selling cannot directly impact Bitcoin given the nation's ban on crypto trading and prior efforts to push miners offshore.
Key risks instead involve whether U.S. tech earnings confirm AI spending outstripping revenue, how closely spot Bitcoin ETFs have linked BTC to tech stocks, and the tendency of fund managers to liquidate assets during steep equity declines.
Conversely, some analysts suggest an AI downturn might barely impact Bitcoin. Ki Young Ju, CEO of CryptoQuant, stated, "I don't think an AI bubble burst would hurt BTC much. Bitcoin missed the entire AI rally." He suggested that those who bought AI stocks might already have sold their BTC, opening a window to rotate back into crypto.
However, Ju cautioned that an AI crash isn't automatically bullish or bearish for BTC, noting, "AI crash isn't necessarily bullish or bearish for BTC. They seem unrelated."
In the near term, traders are monitoring crucial price levels. Ted Pillows mentioned that Binance has maintained purchasing activity, asserting that Bitcoin requires a daily close above $81,000 to regain momentum.
Michaël van de Poppe pointed out a week packed with macroeconomic events and corporate earnings, observing that a strengthening bearish sentiment often surfaces near a market low, leaving upside surprises possible. Ultimately, Bitcoin's trajectory seems more tied to U.S. AI spending narratives than to developments in China, as markets await Fed signals and earnings reports.
Why it matters
The market's focus is shifting from Chinese instability to US tech earnings, which could influence Bitcoin's trajectory. Readers should watch US earnings and Fed signals for clearer direction on BTC's next move.
