Roughly 12,570 BTC departed trading platforms on a net basis, marking one of the largest daily outflows this month and fueling talk of a possible supply shock.

On-chain analytics from CryptoQuant show the Bitcoin exchange netflow has sharply fallen to about -12,570 BTC as of October 27. This figure ranks among the top daily outflows observed this month.

In the last 24 hours alone, net Bitcoin outflows from exchanges surpassed $1 billion. Specifically, over $1 billion of BTC has been removed from exchanges on a net basis recently.

A CryptoQuant chart illustrates this dramatic shift, showing the exchange netflow dropping to around -12,570 BTC by October 27. This outflow is equivalent to about $1.01 billion if the BTC price is around $80,487.

The chart also reveals a significant reversal in exchange activity; just one day prior, it registered a positive net flow exceeding 7,000 BTC before plunging into a deep negative zone. This October 27 drop is one of the largest Bitcoin exchange outflows since October 6, when nearly 15,000 BTC were net withdrawn.

Generally, large Bitcoin outflows are viewed as potentially bullish. This suggests investors are pulling assets from exchanges, possibly moving them to private or institutional storage.

Conversely, substantial inflows to exchanges often signal impending selling pressure, as investors move coins to trading platforms for potential sales.

This recent movement is noteworthy given Bitcoin's recent subdued performance. As of October 27, a CryptoQuant chart showed the price hovering near $80,487 while the flagship crypto attempts to regain footing after touching $80,000.

Why it matters

Large exchange outflows are generally viewed as bullish, suggesting investors are moving BTC to private storage. This action reduces immediately available supply, potentially lessening selling pressure on the market. Traders should watch if this trend continues amid Bitcoin's recent price struggles.
