This latest purchase flowed through the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, known by its ticker FBTC. This spot Bitcoin ETF holds actual Bitcoin for its shareholders.

The $24.54 million transaction fits a pattern of mid-sized buys from the fund. Client-driven transactions have repeatedly settled within the $23 million to $25 million range this year.

For instance, on October 22, 2026, the fund bought $23.08 million, amounting to 282.63 BTC. Earlier, in mid-August, FBTC absorbed approximately $23.92 million in Bitcoin.

However, daily activity varies; on October 13, FBTC recorded net inflows totaling $103.06 million. That single day saw Fidelity's fund capture nearly all of the category's net new money, as the entire US spot Bitcoin ETF sector took in $109.8 million.

Fidelity has been involved with Bitcoin services since 2014, launching Fidelity Digital Assets in 2019 for institutional custody and trading. FBTC itself followed in 2024 after US regulators permitted spot Bitcoin ETFs.

Furthermore, Fidelity Digital Assets reported that perpetual preferred stock from Bitcoin treasury companies funded the acquisition of 135,979 BTC through early October, representing about 0.5% of Bitcoin's total supply.

This dual accumulation—from ETF investors and corporate buyers funded by preferred stock—suggests Bitcoin demand originates from two distinct sources. ETF flows hinge on investor sentiment, while treasury purchases rely on market absorption of new preferred stock.

Why it matters

The concentration of inflows around one major player like Fidelity raises questions about overall sector diversity. This dual accumulation from ETFs and corporate treasury purchases suggests multiple sources are driving Bitcoin demand. Readers should watch how this consolidation trend develops amid fluctuating ETF flows.
