This capital infusion is earmarked for expanding the company's involvement in AI compute trading, hardware, and derivatives.
The round was spearheaded by CMT Digital and attracted participation from mining-hardware manufacturers Canaan and MicroBT, alongside Halo, Steelhead, and angel investors.
This funding follows the September introduction of Luxor AI, which integrates Luxor’s established Bitcoin-mining infrastructure—covering energy, software, hardware, and trading—into the AI and high-performance computing sector.
The company plans to deploy these funds to scale its cloud platform, provide working capital for its AI hardware operations, boost its compute-derivatives trading, and make new engineering and go-to-market hires.
Luxor's CEO and co-founder, Nick Hansen, noted, “Compute markets are converging: the same miners, power sites and capital that served digital mining are now powering AI.”
This strategic pivot mirrors a wider trend within the Bitcoin mining industry, where miners are increasingly redirecting their power and infrastructure toward AI applications.
The Seattle-based company already possesses significant operational experience; its hardware desk has traded $1 billion in mining ASICs, and its energy division supports over 75 megawatts across two U.S. grid regions.
Furthermore, Luxor’s over-the-counter desk already facilitates cash-settled options, forwards, and backstops on compute-rental indexes, allowing AI computing power to be treated as a financial instrument.
Why it matters
This signals a major pivot by established crypto infrastructure firms from Bitcoin mining toward the lucrative AI compute market. Miners are increasingly leveraging their infrastructure and energy access to participate in the AI race. Readers should watch how this miner-to-AI shift impacts energy markets and computational resource pricing.
