Swedbank boosts Strategy stake 27% to 115,464 shares
The Nordic financial giant Swedbank has augmented its ownership in Strategy Inc. by 27%, bringing its total share count to 115,464.
This latest acquisition follows a trend of steady accumulation, with earlier 13F filings indicating the bank purchased 8,278 Strategy shares during the second quarter of 2026, which brought its holdings up to 90,590 shares.
Strategy, which is renowned for maintaining a substantial reserve of Bitcoin on its corporate books, functions as a leveraged equity proxy for the cryptocurrency. This company, under the direction of Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, is reportedly holding somewhere between 600,000 and 800,000 BTC. Essentially, purchasing MSTR shares offers investors a mechanism to participate in Bitcoin's price fluctuations without directly holding the digital coin.
For a conventional banking entity, this distinction holds significant weight. Directly possessing Bitcoin introduces complexities concerning custody, private keys, and an evolving regulatory landscape. Conversely, holding shares traded on the Nasdaq allows the asset to integrate seamlessly into established financial frameworks, much like any other equity.
Swedbank's consistent increase in its holdings through its asset management functions suggests an alignment with investments driven by client needs rather than mere speculative trading. The company's total asset base is valued at a massive $264 billion.
Looking back at the timeline, the position was valued at roughly $8.81 million as of July 2026. Prior to that, in late 2025, the stake was around 79,000 shares. By May of 2026, the share count had surpassed 82,000, and the holding was valued near $20 million towards the end of 2025. Furthermore, Swedbank's activities in 2025 included a holding of 60,195 shares, which was valued at approximately $17.35 million.
The leverage inherent in this structure means that gains can be amplified when Bitcoin experiences a rally, just as drawdowns can be steeper during a decline. This market dynamic helps account for the varying dollar valuations attached to Swedbank's stake across different periods, as the share count increased while the associated market value shifted with the crypto market.
This trend of investment is not unique to Swedbank; SEB Asset Management has also expanded its holdings in MSTR. SEB has disclosed a position comprising 53,837 shares, which held a value of roughly $5 million in 2026. This information was first published on Crypto Briefing.
Why it matters
This continuous accumulation by a major bank signals institutional comfort with Bitcoin exposure via equity proxies. Readers should watch how other traditional financial institutions adopt this leveraged stock strategy as the market evolves.
